Over to Stockholm tonight for a radio session by new talent-on-the-rise Nicole Sabounè, recorded this past July by Sveriges Radio P3.
Sabounè originally appeared on the TV series The Voice, the Swedish equivalent to America’s Got Talent . . .only Sweden. Creating a minor sensation, she was mentored by fellow Swedish singer Ola Salo from the band The Ark and released her first single in October of 2012.
Since then she’s been touring around, building up an audience and getting a lot of positive feedback from the press and radio. She’s currently in London, getting ready for her first set of club dates in the UK and getting ready for the release of her much anticipated debut album.
Lots of energy with a bit of bite, Nicole Sabounè at 21, is looking at a good future ahead and hopefully we’ll get to see her on this side of the Atlantic soon.
In the meantime, check out her Radio Session and visit her Facebook page and see what she’s up to.

One of the most influential bands of the early 70’s Progressive Movement was Van der Graaf Generator. Virtually unknown in the U.S., save for pockets of intense collectors scattered around the country, Van der Graaf were biggest in Europe and huge in Italy, where they toured often and where a whole generation of Italian bands sprang up, seemingly overnight, because of them.
Tonight it’s one of their sessions for the BBC. Recorded on January 27, 1970.
Here’s what’s on the player:
Van Der Graaf Generator
BBC Radio 1 – January 27, 1970
2. After The Flood
Still cited by a number of present-day bands as a source of influence, Van der Graaf pioneered a sound and managed to achieve a permanent level of freshness and intensity in the process. They really haven’t aged a bit.
But that’s just me.
The Futureheads – going from strength to strength.

I first discovered The Futureheads on Myspace around the time their second album had come out. They were gathering a good word of mouth and gigging pretty consistently. That was 8 years ago and a lot has happened in that time. A string of successful singles and four albums to their credit, The Futureheads have become one of England’s most popular post-Punk bands and all the work and slogging have paid off.
Here is a session they did on July 21, 2010 at XFM-104.9, a relatively new independent Rock station in London.
Here’s the rundown:
1. I Can Do That
2. Man Ray
3. The Chaos
Since we’re heading to the end of the week, I thought it might good to increase the voltage a bit. If you aren’t familiar with this band, now’s a great opportunity to get acquainted. I suspect they’ll be touring around the States soon.
