News for this week, ending on January 7th in 1950 had as much to do with Foreign Policy as with starting a new session of Congress. The bombshell was dropped earlier in the he week that Britain had recognized Red China. A move that created a storm of controversy from Capitol Hill to Formosa to London. Just what sort of long-term effect it would have on relations with the government of Chiang-Kai Shek were unclear. But for the moment a milestone in history had been reached on this January 7th.
In other news – The 81st Congress reconvened. President Truman delivered his State of The Union address. The earlier hearings on Influence Peddling in Washington were yielding indictments and Capitol Hill was still undergoing renovation.
