Despite crackdowns, a movement spreading.

News for this day in 1981 had to do with the growing protest movement in Poland known as Solidarity. Begun as a Dock Workers strike in the Port city of Gdansk, the movement gained steam and momentum, prompting numerous attempts at crackdowns from the Militarty government of Gen. Wojciech Jaruzelski . On this particular day, another crackdown was taking place. Each time a crackdown happened, it was hoped, in Warsaw and Moscow, that this would signal the end of movement. But it only served to bolster sentiment throughout the country to continue.

Continuing our week-long dose of non-Traditional Christmas music with The dB’s. Here’s another band that was prominent in the 1980’s, but packed it all in until recently. The dB’s have recently gotten back together and, according to all reports, are as good as new.
Tonight though, it’s a glance back at their Christmas offering via IRS records in 1987. Home For The Holidays is a great tune that needs to be heard more of during this season. Maybe, just maybe, it will become a regular on your Christmas Music compilations.
